Tangram Theatre Company presents a new version of Lope de Vega’s FUENTE OVEJUNA - A pastoral tragicomedy with songs, romance and lynching
Time Out (Critic's choice) **** 'It's truly enlivening when fringe theatre sets itself an ambitious challenge and rises to it ... decidedly organised chaos'
The Evening Standard ***: 'A decidedly cocky approach to making theatre, and here the result is a bright, lively, imaginative interpretation ... a boldly conceived production, performed with conviction by a versatile company'
FUENTE OVEJUNA, a new version of Lope de Vega’s Golden Age masterpiece, opens at the Southwark Playhouse on 13 August with previews from 9 August.

In 1472, the villagers of Fuente Ovejuna stood up to a tyrant and inspired a nation. Famous for its revolutionary fervour and bucolic joy, Fuente Ovejuna is one of the great works of the Spanish Golden Age.
With an eleven strong ensemble of London’s finest actors on a bare stage, live music every night, audience interaction and an irreverent selection of props including frisbees, water-bombs and toilet fresheners, we welcome you to the village of Fuente Ovejuna where it’s all about to kick off!
Director/Writer Daniel Goldman and Tangram return to the Southwark Playhouse for the first time since their award-winning Richard III (2007) to present the first London revival of Lope’s world classic since the National’s Olivier award-winning production of 21 years ago.
N.B. As this production invites the audience to join in the playfulness of the actors and become co-villagers of Fuente Ovejuna, we recommend you dress accordingly. You may, of your own free will, decide to get dirty and/or wet during the show.
